Scarlett Johansson is still flogging that album of Tom Waits covers she released a while back. Now she's gone and covered The Cure. Sacrilege?

Well if you start at Tom Waits then you're just working your way back down the artistic food chain really aren't you? The husky, monotone-voiced actress has released a 'live' EP exclusively for iTunes. Though I guess 'live' means just the kind of "controlled studio performance" that we've seen before. That's right no physical release so you have to buy it on iTunes here. As the tracklist shows, there's not much we haven't heard before:

1.  Anywhere I Lay My Head (Live)
2.  Innocent When You Dream (Live)
3.  Falling Down (Live)
4.  I Wish I Was in New Orleans (Live)
5.  Green Grass (Live)
6.  Who Are You (Live)
7.  Boys Don't Cry (Live)

EXCEPT for the late inclusion of The Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry'. Which as you can hear below, has been transformed from the jaunty pop single we all know and love to an Eastern-tinged sluggish mood piece.

Scarlett Johansson - 'Boys Don't Cry' (Live)

At about 3:50 in she does successfully hit the highest note of her career thus far. And I mean literally. Her voice doesn't so mush soar as "hum", if at least on pitch. That doesn't necessarily mean much though. I have a friend who worked on a 'Live' KISS album that saw the band come in to the studio for a week and painstakingly fix and re-record 95% of it. Smoke and mirrors my friends, smoke and mirrors.

Scarlett Johansson - 'Falling Down' (live-ish)
