Ross McLennan is a Melbourne based songwriter of formidable talent. This you would know if you saw the band he fronted in the 90s, obtuse pop kings Snout.
Well when Snout split in 2002,
McLennan bunkered down and returned with 2003 solo record 'Hits From the Brittle Building'. After a round of launch shows he once again disappeared from the radar to pursue more noble pursuits, such as teaching and raising a child. The creativity didn't stop though and he showed up again this year with 'Sympathy for the New World' a sprawling pop song cycle that's invariably been described as "genius" and "masterpiece". And that's just in Family Circle and Guns n Ammo. Wait til the music mags get hold of it.
Such proclamations will be under the cameraphone microscope in a few weeks time however, when Ross hits stages both north and south. He plays Manchester Lane in Melbourne on May 29 and the Hopetoun Hotel in Sydney on June 6. You should go.
