Ratatat - 'Shiller'
These guys snuck in a few gigs in Australia recently on the back of...not much at all really. The NY electro duo of Mike Stroud and Evan 'E*vax' Mast's last album was in 2006. Turns out it was one of those pre-release tours. Ah gotchya. Now the first taste of
Ratatat's forthcoming has dropped in the shape of the single 'Shiller'.
It's an odd choice for a single. A slow, cinematically unwinding skyward-looking spectacle of a jam, with a not a beat in sight. It's like the wide-eyed discovery of the spaceship in the clearing, as opposed to the actual bombast of running from the aliens trying to hook into your ligaments. And...a bit devoid of thrill. It is beautiful, though hopefully not the "adrenalin pumping centrepiece" of the album.
