Organisers of the feted UK based All Tomorrow's Parties festival are bringing the concept downunder in 2009. At the helm? Local boy Nick Cave.
The ATP festival has been a cherished blip on the UK musical landscape since the turn of the decade. Held at holiday camp style complexes in the English countryside, punters are limited to just a few thousand and stay in on site accommodation. The festival line-up traditionally showcases acts from the margins of the musical spectrum, often due to each event being 'curated' by a particular 'underground' artist or band. As a result, little-known but largely influential, experimental and unrecognised bands play over the event. Or as one-time curator Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth put it "It's the ultimate
mix tape".
With the recent debut New York edition just a few weeks old - and which saw the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr, Shellac and our very own The Drones perform - here comes details of the inaugural Australian edition.
To be held in three states and curated and headlined by Warracknabeal native Nick Cave, the line-up and details go a little something like this:
