Bloc Party have joined the stampede in suddenly announcing that their new album will be available to download in just a few days.

Following in the footsteps of Radiohead, Beck, The Raconteurs and Nine Inch Nails - who all announced the digital release of their albums just days or weeks before making them available - the UK band will make their third record Intimacy available to download from this Thursday 21 August. The physical release of the CD will still go ahead on October 27, and will feature several tracks not on the digital release. Those who order the physical CD will also receive the digital release on August 21. Comprehensive.

The album was produced by Paul Epworth (Silent Alarm) and Jacknife Lee (A Weekend in the City) and was recorded in Kent and London. Word is the record is a mix of 'classic' Bloc Party and the experimental "less guitars" version of Bloc Party that singer Kele Okereke mooted long ago. We're guessing that first single 'Mercury' is in the latter camp.
