When a pop band has "experimental" on their
MySpace page, it usually means they play with a xylophone on stage. Magic Dirt on the other hand, are one of the few who've actually earned their tag. The Geelong bred quartet have dangled both sides of the fence - veering from badland stoners (
Friends in Danger/'I Was Cruel'), to shiny pop stars ('Dirty Jeans'?) and back again (last years white noise drone-fest
Roky's Room).
With the sonic assault of
Roky's Room now purged, the band have album No. 5 in their sights. Titled
Girl the disc is due in July, and the band plan to follow it up with a massive tour "playing in over 40 rural towns in QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, W.A. & S.A." throughout August.
In tandem with such a venture, Magic Dirt have put the call out to bands of all stature, location and genre's to submit demo CD's for support slot consideration. The band wants interested parties to send their demos to:
MAGIC DIRTPO BOX 297FAIRFIELD, VIC 3078 The band will listen to all submissions apparently and, after playing frisbee for a couple of hours, announce the winners in the last week of July.
