The nascent Lost Weekend Festival, to be held on the outskirts of Brisbane over the first weekend in March, has been forced to up stumps and move to a central location.
When the festival was first
announced back in November 2009, organisers touted its location, the
Ivory's Rock Conference Centre, as including camping facilities, a natural amphitheatre and hectares of natural forest. No more.
According to a statement issued today, "issues beyond the promoters control" have forced the three day rural festival to shrink to a two day city event, now to be held at the Brisbane Riverstage and Botanical Gardens (pictured). It will now also be an all ages gig, though under 18s will have "limited access (full vision of all stages but not full run of the site)".
From the press release:
Unfortunately issues beyond the promoter’s control have made running the event in the way that they envisaged impossible, and have forced the inaugural The Lost Weekend to be moved to the picturesque Brisbane Riverstage and Botanical Gardens. The festival will no longer be a camping event and will now be held on Saturday March 6 and Sunday March 7, with the same diverse and exciting selection of international, interstate and local acts performing over three stages between 10am and 10pm on both days, still making it the perfect end to the festival season.
“We will continue to work with the venue and local authorities towards holding an event of the originally intended nature at Ivory’s Rock Conference Centre – all parties have been keen to make The Lost Weekend work and we still believe we will achieve this in time,” the promoter stated. “But in the end we needed to make sure we could provide the best experience at the inaugural event for both patrons and artists alike.”
All current tickets are valid for the new venue. All existing ticket holders will be contacted by organisers The Lost Weekend shortly and be explained their options. Full refunds will be available.
As of Monday 7th February there are three types of tickets on sale for The Lost Weekend:
