James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem has refuted reports that the acclaimed band are breaking up. Instead, he's nearly finished writing the new album.

LCD Soundsytem touring guitarist Al Doyle told BBC 6 Music this week that Murphy was likely to retire the LCD Soundsytem name and perhaps even the band in its current form. He said that Murphy was keen on making a disco record and was thinking of possibly recruiting older singers from the era rather than singing on the album himself.

Said Doyle: "I don't think James is going to do anything more under that name. I think he'd like to do something with the same personnel possibly next year. We were thinking of doing something where we find a lot of the old disco singers in New York that might still be around from the 70s, and get them in as guest vocalists with LCD as a backing band, and tour around as a disco heroes style show."

Yikes. Don't do it James! With last year's Sound of Silver hitting the top of nearly every fan's year end list (Metacritic has the album rated as 86 aka UNIVERSAL ACCLAIM) this isn't exactly inspiring news.

Now in a new interview with the NME, Murphy sheds a little more light on the situation. He claims that - in his head at least - he's actually halfway through a new LCD Soundsystem record:

"I get to a point where there are too many songs and I have to get them recorded. I recently felt that. I've got eight in my head - that's critical mass."

He goes on to explain his process, which perhaps translates as to why Doyle made such claims.

"When I start recording I don't tell anyone not even my manager. I'll go away for a month to a studio outside the city [New York] and do it."

Phew. Doyle also plays in Hot Chip. He might like to hang on to his day job after this.
