Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has written an open
letter to Metallica, suggesting that they not release their new album until
it's "kick-ass".
The self-absorbed,
anti-MP3 metal dudes are
releasing their ninth studio album this year. It’s five years since that Some Kind of Monster thing.
Grohl has let the band know, via public letter, that they
should not rush the new record. Grohl implies that they’ve more or less sucked
in recent times and, as a big ol’ fan boy, doesn’t want to be disappointed.
Again.
The letter was posted on Blabbermouth.net:
"Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? I'm the guy that's
been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album
'Kill 'Em All' from a mail order catalogue. But that album changed my life.
"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter
what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm
sure you'll come out and blow everybody's f**kin' minds, because you're
f**kin' METALLICA! Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass."
He adds a final touch of Grohl magic.
"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums
yet?"
Perhaps someone (Lenny Kravitz?) ought to start drawing
up a similar missive around the time of future Foo Fighters studio sessions.
