Fresh from their
spat with Arcade Fire, balloon loving silver-foxes
Flaming Lips are coming to Australia. Right near Splendour in the Grass. Hmm.
Despite the band not having offically announced a full tour here yet, there are rumours flying thick and fast. It does seem that they'll hit these shores in July; a Sydney date at the Hordern Pavilion is slated for July 28 (with tickets going on sale the 2nd of April.
Apparently.)
They're expected to announce a Melbourne show for the following night at Festival Hall. A second show at Festival Hall in Melbourne will happen on the 29th.
Choosing the Lips over Metallica at the 2004 Big Day Out was a life-changing experience. Really. "So...music can be this much FUN?" Don't miss it.
Traditionally Splendour in the Grass happens the first few weekends of August. (
Yep, just like we remembered it.) See where this is going? Splendour also has a habit of plucking international bands from the Japanese tour circuit as they swing over to our mutual longitude for Fuji Rock and Super Sonic. So in the spirit of rampant speculation and dream team style fantasising, here's our hypothetical Splendour lineup possibilities culled from those
two festivals:
Flaming Lips
Weezer
Sonic Youth
Animal Collective
Ben Harper
Diplo
Girl Talk
Gang Gang Dance
Little Boots
Metronomy
M83
Royksopp
Aphex Twin
Klaxons
Mercury Rev
Placebo
N.A.S.A
Fingers crossed.
