The Big Day Out caused all sorts of consternation when it was
announced a few months back. Allegations that the lineup was too safe, too similar to previous years and too damn commercial, were quickly nullified by the fact that the thing sold out nationally for the first time ever. A nation of Muse, Lily Allen and Powderfinger fans are a force to be reckoned with it transpires. Or at least, their annual gig is.
The subtext to the festival announcement for many fans was the possibility of sideshows. We've already had a couple confirmed in Lily Allen and The Mars Volta, and now here comes the rest. Interesting to see that the hugely hyped and playlisted Passion Pit are playing a much smaller venue in Melbourne (The Corner) than the commercially obscure Mastodon (The Palace). Perhaps add Metal fans to that list of forces above.
And no Horrors sideshow? C'mon.
All tickets go on sale on Monday 30th November, whereupon ticketing sites will shit.
