It's been kept under wraps quite well for the past couple of weeks, but the cat (or should we say horse?) has been let out of the bag: the iconic Neil Young will be coming to Australia early next year to headline Big Day Out 2009. It's been five years since the folk rocker visited our shores, and on this tour he'll be bringing along Kentucky act My Morning Jacket to play support.

Although it hasn't been officially announced, I think I can safely say that My Morning Jacket wouldn't come all this way and not play Big Day Out. Other acts rumoured to be a part of Australia's largest festival  include The Arctic Monkeys and The Ting Tings, who are currently in the country on a promo tour. If you've got any other educated guesses as to who might be on the lineup next year, let us know!

The dates for the Neil Young / My Morning Jacket shows are:

Wednesday January 21
Brisbane Entertainment Centre

Saturday January 24
Sydney Entertainment Centre

Wednesday January 28
Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne

Tickets go on sale Friday September 19 from Ticketmaster for the Sydney and Melbourne shows and Ticketek for the Brisbane date.
