Australians would rather travel with Johnny Depp than Ryan Gosling, says new survey

A new survey conducted by Hilton HHonors, the guest loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide, has released a comprehensive list of which celebrities Australians dream of travelling with. (And other travel preferences, like coveted holiday destinations and what kind of vacations Australians opt for, but we’ll get to that in a moment).

The somewhat surprising results found that of the 1000 female and male participants, Johnny Depp was named the most popular celebrity amongst Aussie travelers, with 34 per cent of men and 36 per cent of women putting him down as their most desired backpacking buddy.

Prince Harry obviously beat boring old Wills (who would you rather hit Thailand with? Wills may remember things like passports and train times but with Harry you’re far more likely to end up in a bath of ice locked in an opium den sans liver) with 22 per cent of people hypothetically choosing the Vegas-streaking Royal as a travelmate versus a mere 16 per cent who marked ‘yes’ next to the King-of-England-to-be.

Overall, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Charlie Sheen scored 18, 23 and 22 per cent of 'favourite' votes respectively, while Hugh Hefner, Donald Trump, Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard were the survey’s least popular candidates. Obviously.

As far as female companions went, people were predictably boring, nominating – in order – Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale, Delta Goodrem and The Queen over Lindsay Lohan (poor LiLo only raked in 7 per cent of votes). To this I wonder, what would you say to the first three on long train rides or deserted islands? At least with Lindsay conversation would never run dry and you’d come back with some killer stories (if you came back at all, that is).

Aside from the country’s imperative star-rankings, the survey also found some useful information. Firstly, “2 in 5 respondents would opt for a sightseeing holiday over 22 percent of respondents who prefer beach” holidays, and secondly, the most popular overseas attractions were ranked as follows: Egyptian Pyramids, Niagra Falls, walking the Great Wall of China and climbing the Eiffel Tower.
