Right now in America, Chicago’s Mayor and President Obama’s former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is engaged in a very public battle with the city’s teaching union. The poli (and to a lesser extent his Secretary of Education Arne Duncan) is under fire for his alleged “teacher bashing”, schemes to privatize public education and, as The Huffington Post described, for being “an anti-union corporate politician”. But Emanuel’s policy isn’t where one of the 29,000 striking Chicago teachers chose to hit him. The senator’s Achilles’ heel was far weaker:
It is fair to say the protestor wasn’t afraid to defame and would go to any length to assinate the man’s character. Now, I don’t know much about American education policy, but someone really has it in for this guy. So shocking was the allegation of the sign, Emanuel's office was forced to retort: "No" his office responded tersely when asked if the allegations surrounding his musical tastes were true.
Anyway, given that freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, we thought we’d pay tribute to this protester and many like him and compile a gallery of the funniest protest signs we were able to gather. After all, satire is essential in a free society!
