Game soundtracks have grown in sophistication over the last 30 years, evolving from the primitive beeps blurted by the first generation of home computers, arcade machines and consoles. Today's games now feature fully symphonic scores on par with Hollywood blockbusters and CD-quality licensed music from popular and emerging artists.
The shift from floppy disc and cartridge-based games to optical discs had the most significant impact on improving game soundtracks, allowing the quality and quantity of music to drastically increase, but even with limited tools, early game composers were able to create wonderful ditties that will be forever etched in our brains.
