The 2011 Video Game Awards have just happened in L.A. Skyrim seems to have won everything worth winning and The Legend of Zelda series won a hall of fame award (accepted by Miyamoto san himself)—no surprises there.

Three game trailers caught my eye and have me a little excited for 2012.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Ex
OK, so it has a shit name and I can't seem to find anything meaningful on the plot. I currently think there is no plot beyond killing anything that moves. That's fine with me... I don't need a story to have fun. Note the protagonist's studded high heels. He's a PVC gimp suit fiend for sure!

Colleagues in my office stared when I blurted out "awh year" in my best East L.A. gansta voice. Ninjas, swords, guns and robots in the one game—what could possibly go wrong? See here...

Must be an awesome money-back guarantee on dude's Demtel sword—m'fuggah cuts through anything.

Diablo III
The next best thing after robot ninjas has to be sorcery and anything Blizzard does. Diablo 3 needs little introduction... (and actually, that was the introduction):

Poor uncle, lost down a fiery pit of doom.

The Last of Us
OK, everyone loves zombie themes these last few years—I'm starting to think we've seen enough zombies for a little while. Anyway, this game trailer adds a little panache to the genre—it looks fantastic. Of course, we said that about Dead Island with it's beautiful trailer—the game itself turned out to be rather lack lustre. I don't know much about The Last of Us, but judging by the final scene where it shows a cityscape reclaimed by nature, it seems to have I Am Legend resonance.

Hopefully this game turns out to be a winner. It looks fantastic and even has a real movie feel about it (again—that's what the trailer suggests).
