New app wants you to Bang With Friends

Three anonymous California-based web entrepreneurs think “online dating is broken” and have come up with quite a solution to fix it.

A just-launched web app unambiguously titled Bang With Friends allows you to select from your Facebook list which “friends” you’re down to do the nasty with, but unlike an awkwardly pending friend request – “X would like to bang you. Accept/ Decline” – both parties are only notified of their potential new suitor once they’ve been deemed mutually bang-able. Essentially, the potential for out-and-out rejection is eradicated.

The app has already garnered a great deal of attention, with more than 20,000 users signing up in it's first four days (hopefully they’ve all set their privacy statuses tightly to ‘Only Me’) and aims to re-invent the cyber courtship culture, “What a lot of people want is just to skip all the s--t and get to the sex. [We thought] it would be great, as guys, if you could find out which girls are actually into you and not dance around anything.” Dance around? Do they mean do silly things like talk? How archaic!

Bang With Friends though is based on the principles of honesty and transparency, according to interview the (male) founders did with The Daily Beast:

“[Sex] should be something you’re expressive about, that you’re comfortable with, and if there’s a beautiful woman or a handsome man that you’re interested in, you shouldn’t hold back. We’re just giving you closer access to knowing the truth.”

“It’s less about one-night stands and more about getting people to be more blunt with the way they’re approaching each other. We believe relationships really evolve after you have sex with one another.”

Look, it’s not the worst start-up we’ve ever seen, even though it does say a great deal about the way we communicate. Telling someone you’re keen with just the click of a covert button seems, above all else, just a little lazy.

There are glitches though that’ll keep you feeling alive, should you chose to participate – suggested matches can still potentially be family members, friends with different sexual orientations to you, and friends in relationships, “We’re not too objective to hooking up with that cute secretary across the office if she has a boyfriend already.” Well, lucky ladies, if you sign up, that could be you.
