Mass Effect 3 DLC, the Playstation 4 launch and crippled BUNNIES!

Welcome to another installment of Things and Stuff! We have my top five stories of the week from the world of gaming, tech, and geek, so let's tear the lid off and start huffing the contents, shall we? And to kick things off, we have some pretty big Mass Effect news.

5: New Mass Effect 3 DLC announced!

Bioware announced mere hours ago that after months of work, the final Mass Effect 3 DLC will be released on March the 5th. I'd go into more detail, but after months of following whispers from the voice cast and developers on twitter and facebook, I thought I'd just post the whole official synopsis from Bioware themselves.

"When a sinister conspiracy targets Commander Shepard, you and your team must uncover the truth, through battles and intrigue that range from the glamour of the Citadel’s Wards to the top-secret Council Archives.  Uncover the truth and fight alongside your squad – as well as the cast from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, including Urdnot Wrex!

When the adventure is over, reconnect with your favorite characters from the Mass Effect Trilogy, try your luck at the Citadel’s Silver Coast Casino, blow off steam in the Armax Combat Arena, or explore and furnish Shepard’s own living quarters on the Citadel. With unique content and cinematics featuring your friends and romance interests in the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3: Citadel offers one final chance to see the characters you have known for years and rekindle romances.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel will release worldwide on March 5th on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 (on March 6th on PS3 in Europe). Price: $14.99, 1200MS points and 1200 BW points."

As I'm sure you're aware, Mass Effect 3 and I have a chequered past: I was initially vehemently against the endings of the trilogy. I still feel they were lazy Deus Ex endings which, due to the innate talent of many of the writers involved, contain huge slabs of dark sci-fi goodness, as well as (if you look closely) some legitimately pleasing closure. This DLC will, ideally, do one of two things: provide you with more one-on-one time with the friends you've made in the Mass Effect universe, and... I can't believe I'm going to say this... change the ending. Maybe just a little? I'd be fascinated if it did. Anyway, time will tell. Bioware also announced the coming release of a multiplayer DLC called Reckoning, but I'm ill qualified to discuss ME3 multiplayer, having not touched it myself.

Next, we have a quick look at the whirlwind of insanity the gaming world weathered yesterday: the somewhat odd ceremony in which the Playstation 4 was announced!

4. Playstation 4 announcement funtimes!

Here, to begin, is the trailer.

What you basically saw there was a selection of stuff that'll be on the upcoming PS4, and a brief, furtive, teasing glimpse of the console itself. There was also a creepy old man face. Honestly, the whole thing is something of a blur for me, too. But what of the specs for the new console? Well, here they are.

I'm pretty excited, I'll be honest. For all the bitching (some of it valid), the console has some superb promise to it. I'll be doing a more in-depth look at what it has in store for gamers next week.

Oh, but before I forget...Blizzard made an announcement yesterday: They're bringing Diablo III to PS3 AND PS4.

Diablo III feels to me now like a relationship which bottomed out after starting with unbeleivable promise, and that could have been (and could still be) fixed with some very basic nudges in the right direction. Blizzard dropped the ball with Diablo III - the loot system was vapid garbage, the fourth act was a truncated waste of a superb narrative opportunity, the auction house was a biblically dickish move on every conceivable level and the always online requirement was idiotic from the get-go. But maybe it'll suit consoles more. I wish it all the best with it's newer, richer lover.

Ooh! Here's some welcome news, which ought to flood your brain with sweet, disgusting nostalgia:

3. Tamagotchi are back! Sort of.

Oh yes. Tamagotchi as an Android app. Brilliant, I think. Although there's no conceivable reason that grown women should dress that way, even if it is for a paying gig. Good god.

2. Google Smart Glasses get an actual demo!

Next up, we have a video released by Google which shows you what wearing their upcoming smart glasses will be like. PREP YO LENSES.

I'll be honest, wearing those would very likely make me feel like the protagonist in a video game which, as you've probably guessed, is a personal actual shut up don't laugh aspiration of mine. Anway, I'm excited, and if anyone can pull of something as weird as this, Google can. Probably.

1. Rabbit in a wheelchair.

And finally, because I'm feeling awesome today, here's video of Lily, the lionhead bunny, an actual bunny who needs to be adopted from the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary. What's special about Lily? Get ready to weep openly.

Yep. Lily had to have her legs amputated. But you love her anyway, don't you? I know I do. Seriously I just want to hold that little bundle of love forever. *sniff*

Catch you all next week!

/Paul
