Stemming from a quote from Steve Jobs’ recent biography, the big chat on the Internet at the moment in on the possibility and wonders of an Apple television. For years companies have tried to take the TV to the next level, evident recently with the influx of ‘internet televisions’ from any of the brand names.
Needless to say, we haven’t been blown away by internet TVs. That and we still have a million unused channels, 3 million remotes and user interfaces that could make even the manliest of men resort to reading the instructions. But if there could be one company to change all if that it would be Apple.
I think that if we were to see an Apple television, it could be an abslute game-changer like iPhone was (is). Apple has an unmatched service catalogue and a history of beautiful interfaces that could finally create the complete multimedia device we’ve been dreaming of.
We could see a television featuring a heavily modified iOS that would play, store all your favourite movies, music, TV shows and photos on its inbuilt iTunes as well as off the cloud and via WiFi from your home computer. You could stream from YouTube, as well as big television networks, be they are smart enough to jump on board.
It would be controlled by an Apple remote or your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. It’s big draw card could be Apple’s big pulling power by attracting game developers to create games for it, and not just little ones either; big high-budget games that could be controlled by either the bundled remote or your iPhone and iPad.
Of course, the above is just in my dreams, but with nVidia’s Tegra 3, Quad-Core processors, the architecture for high definition games from a chip that is tiny is certainly there, and if Apple utilises that, its ecosystem and ability to create a simple, unified interface with a brilliant display at a competitive price, they could really change the game, again.
Leave your comments below with what you think would make a killer Apple Television (or just discuss Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim if that’s what you’d rather)!
