Brisbane Lions star Brendan Fevola is in custody after being arrested during New Year's Eve celebrations in Brisbane.

Police said they had arrested a 29-year-old Norman Park man at the corner of Ann and Brunswick streets in Fortitude Valley about 4.30am this morning.

It is believed Fevola allegedly became aggressive and refused to co-operate with orders when approached by police.

He was charged with public nuisance and obstructing police and remained in custody at 10am, although he is expected to be bailed today.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrate's Court on January 18.

Lions' spokesman Sam Lord said no comment would be made until the club knew all the details.

It was a poor start to the year for troublesome Fevola.

Yesterday he had hoped for a brighter 2011 when he posted this message on Twitter: "Good bye 2010 thank god! Bring on 2011 lions will roar again :)"
