This German couple took a Christmas photo every year for 40 years
Anna and Richard Wagner took a Christmas portrait of themselves every Christmas Eve, from the first year of their marriage in 1900 until the early 1940s, just before Anna’s death in 1945. From their base in Berlin, the stereoscopic photos were used as Christmas cards and were sent to the couple’s friends.
From a contemporary perspective, the snaps are oddly romantic in their intimate and antiquated grandeur, and form a fascinating insight into the passage of time. Check out a selection of the snaps as picked out by Retronaut in the gallery to the right.
