The blossoms are out in Melbourne, and Spring's promise is here. And with blossoms and longer days comes the chance for Melbourne to undress a little and feel some warm on our skin. Things get a little less utilitarian and a little more light and lovely.
Sarah Hankinson will be exhibiting her latest work entitled “Raspberry Tarts” at Somewhere Gallery during this year's fresh Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
In the delicious mode of serving up beauty for beauty's sake, Sarah is presenting a buffet of loveliness in her very delicate illustrative way.
“I wanted to play on the decadence of French pastries and sweets, naming each subject after a sweet and relating it to her in some way through both colour and texture" she explains.
Several of the works are in collaboration with local Melbourne photographers including She is Frank and Elvina-Mae Farkas, their beautiful portraits being the basis for several of the illustrations .
Sarah has made her mark in several fashion publications including YEN, Cleo and Shop Til You Drop. Her style slots into a very hand-drawn trend that embraces a soft focus, nostalgic chocolate box feel.
Each piece is made up of mixed media, primarily pencil and encompassing lashings of vibrant colour. Hankinson’s works are ultra feminine, glamorous and naturally sexy.
