Emerging in the post-Oasis landscape of lad-rock, Kasabian initially seemed like another group of loud-mouth, guitar-poppers destined to fall into the back pages of the NME scrapbook under 'Where are they now?'. But then came their 2009 breakthrough West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum; the band's startling left turn into psychedelic groove territory — one that saw them shirk dour guitar rock for a more transcendental, danceable experience. It worked. The thing sold a million copies, was lauded by the British music press, winning Best Album from Q Magazine, Best British Group at the Brits, Best Album at the NME awards and a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. But us Australians would know this — the band's last tour here in Australia behind the album a surprise hit, winning accolades for their Big Day Out slot as well as a series of sold out sideshows.
Now, with their highly-anticipated 4th studio album Velociraptor! set for release on September 16th, the band are back in Australia for an exclusive local gig to play the thing, thanks to Debit MasterCard and their Priceless Music Series event.
