The Italians gave it 10 standing ovations in one night. It stormed Slovenia’s major cultural centre, and was the first Australian show to tour to Rijeka in recent history, where it sold three times the tickets available. Tokyo hipsters crowded a waterfront warehouse in Yokohama to witness “a fantastically indecent and breath-taking night!!” and New Zealanders cheered and gasped.
Now, hot on the heels of a world tour, soon to be celebrating their 150th sell-out show, the smash hit success of festivals everywhere comes back to Melbourne with Burlesque Hour…She’s Back!, transforming the atmospheric old warehouse of fortyfivedownstairs into a luscious underground salon, a curvaceous crash curve carnival, in the heart of the city, in the heart of winter.
Revving up the mix with wild new acts, all time favourites and fabulous new guest stars, Finucane and Smith’s multi-award winning revolution-in-a-chocolate-box, returns to Melbourne for a limited season only. See internationally acclaimed Queen of Cabaret Bizarre, Mistress of Grand Guignol Moira Finucane; Japanese butoh dancer and shock cabaret artiste Yumi Umiumare; circus and burlesque star Azaria Universe. Plus! The must-see work of legendary and infamous iconoclast Maude Davey, and – just back from a Tour de France – the all-dancing all-dangerous nunchaku go-go girls The Town Bikes!
In 2007, Melbournians snatched up every last ticket to grab a table by the catwalk in this luscious salon of circus and sideshow, showgirl and show-stopper, striptease, cartoon strip, boho and butoh, music hall, monologue and mayhem….all to an eclectic, electric soundtrack from hardcore industrial to kitschy Jap-pop.
From the house of Finucane & Smith (Moira Finucane & Jackie Smith), renowned creators of intimate theatrical spectacles where variety, fairy tale, cabaret, the gothic, and burlesque are melded into indelible visions of humanity, freedom, power and desire, The Burlesque Hour has created a frenzy amongst critics and audiences around the world, from Sydney Opera House to Scotland, Tokyo to Trieste, London to Ljubjlana, Edinburgh to Adelaide. Winning six of Australia’s most prestigious theatre awards and seen by over 30,000 people, The Burlesque Hour is a Crash Curve Carnival of that will delight and disturb long after the carnival is over. Don’t miss out …. your table awaits.
