Let’s give it up for denim. Is there anything it can’t do? It’s the potato equivalent of the fashion world - a basic wardrobe staple that can apply to almost everything.
Much like the potato, it too can make you look bloated. But that hasn’t stopped denim lovers through out history and the recent crop of denim devotees of late. Cue Kayne West, the Louis Vuitton don who stole the lime light from his lycra and leather clad lady friend when he donned a whole lot of denim.
Not since the forgotten days when Irish girl band Bewitched were jumping around and Brits and JT were together, have we seen such a love for denim. The double denim trend has also resurfaced on the catwalk with Chloe, Ralph Lauren and D&G doubling their doses during the recent overseas Spring Summer shows, while John Paul Gaultier revived the humble denim overalls. Dawn from the Baby Sitters club will be pleased.
Those Brit brat pack girls, the Pixies, the Peaches and the Aggys all seem to be fans of doubling denim. But let's be honest, all these girls live in are denim and leather, so doubling up eventually, unless their doing a wash everyday (unlikely), was inevitable.
‘It’ girls and designers aside, the only girl who has managed to inspire this denim skeptic to bathe herself in the fabric is the cute as pie Dianna Lunt captured by The Sartorialist in New York. That doesn't mean you can't give it a shot. Pick two different tones of denim and go for it!
