Keira Knightley and Kristen Stewart: Fashion Face-off

Keira Knightley and Kristen Stewart: Fashion Face-off

When it comes to lithe limbed, high cheek boned, pale, dark haired and interesting girls, Kristen Stewart and Keira Knightley really are the go to’s. Both balance their careers between big budget typecasting and meatier indies, and the pair have won rabid devotees in the fashion world. Lately, both have been stepping out for the premieres of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II and Anna Karenina and the different but at times convergent paths that their careers have taken are paralleled in their styles.

Both women do dark romance superbly, and as Stewart’s risqué sequin and lace jumpsuit and Knightley’s décolletage baring efforts both show, neither back away from overtly sensual looks, though they always do them with class (and okay, lately in Stewart’s case a touch of arse too).

They’re both strident fans of the interesting little dress, and though we’d like to see less of those looks on the runway, they continue work magic at press calls and fan events.

While Knightley’s style is a little more classic, influenced by the Parisian refinement of her work with Chanel, Kristen Stewart’s look, like Balenciaga, has a grittier, more rock and roll edge.

It’s interesting to see the way the pair take quite similar ensembles and work their own personalities into them. Kristen brings heavy lidded eyes and a sleepy sort of sex appeal, while Keira’s approach feels more polished, with retro beauty details like cat’s eye liner and blood red lipstick.

Both looks work equal wonders, while perfectly communicating the message of teen queen and period princess with plenty of range for movement.

This black lace and sheer style has been in full force since summer 2011. The shine with it makes it less drab, but I have to go with Kiera's dress with the long sleeves as the winner because it is so timeless, modest, and intriguingly beautiful.
