24 iconic 90s models
Ah, the 90’s. Karl Lagerfeld was fat, Nickelodeon was rife and Miranda Kerr was just a mark on a Dolly magazine cover. Perhaps it’s too early for a revival – apparently, for something to be vintage, 35 years must pass – but the 90’s resurgence has been immutable after we all managed to sober up from a very fluoro 80s flashback. From ASOS high-necked Beverly Hills-esque crop tops, to prevalent crosses, mesh, self-aware kitsch and Cruel Intentions grunge, TheVine, for one, is lapping up the fashion renaissance. Since last year anyway, hair extensions have been obliterated, and The Rachel is having its own appropriation with The Lara Bingle. As we pointed out a while ago, “designers are sending models down the runway in square neck tube dresses (Vena Cava), crop tops (Preen) and flatforms (Prada)” while Gwen Stefani and Kate Moss have been all up in the headlines this week. It is safe to say the anti-fashion ‘too cool to care’ attitude has been refined and nuanced into its own style movement, and to celebrate, we scoured the recesses of the modelsphere to bring you, for your viewing pleasure only, the most iconic models of the 90’s. Yesterday was rough on our livers (and bank accounts), so let today at least be easy on the eyes. Time to replace that shampoo with eyeliner, y’all. It’s back.
