You know how much I always bang on about the great things that have come out of the '90s, and this time is no exception. Opened in 1998, Genki became as much of a Melbourne institution as coffee and graffiti stricken laneways. Unfortunately, last week Genki closed the doors of their majestic Cathedral Arcade store for the last time.

Fans and regular passersby alike have faced the situation with heavy hearts, as the Genki store not only stocked marvelously cute and quirky clothing and accessories, it also offered a first class shopping experience. Warm, cosy and with an unassuming eccentricity, you could always rely on friendly service and familiar, helpful staff.

It’s a rare Melbournian that doesn’t have at least one of Genki’s signature ‘I love’ t-shirts or sweaters, as Genki’s loves are as broad as anyone’s. Personally, ‘I love shoes’ and ‘I love fashion’ rate high on my Genki love radar. Do you think I’ve said ‘love enough’ in one paragraph? TheVine's fashion editor has the 'I love golf' T-shirt. If you’re starting to feel a bit down trodden because you haven’t shopped in Genki or shameful that you don’t actually own an ‘I love’ tee, never fear- Genki is still well and truly alive via their online store genki.com.au.
