Best dressed of the British Fashion Awards 2012
The thing about Britain is its proudest fashion tradition is tailoring, and it’s brightest hopes lie in experimentation. These two peaks, combined with a unique leisure class of women whose entire lives are dedicated to the ruthless pursuit of cool means that the British Fashion Awards tend to be the best dressed cocktail event in the world.
This year’s Designer and Designer Brand of the Year Awards both went to Stella McCartney. Between her sleek, dark evening looks (made most notable by Kate Winslet’s arresting physique), her design contribution to the British Olympic team and her cheerful, trend setting mirrored florals McCartney has been having a dream run lately.
The public-voted British Style Award, which should probably be renamed the “Alexa Chung Award” permanently, and be open only to women who are not Alexa Chung, went to Alexa Chung. Erdem won the New Establishment Award, Harold Tilman CBE won the Special Recognition prize for his work as the Chairman of the BFC, Manolo Blahnik CBE took out the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion award.
