There was one Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival show I wasn't going to miss: RAFW review show 4. Held on Saturday night, the show featured some of my favourite designers including Romance Was Born, Konstantina Mittas and Therese Rawsthorne. And it emulated all the glory, edge and sophistication that the industry shows do. Here’s a report on the fab three that showed this past weekend.
1. Austere might be one way to describe
Konstantina Mittas’ polished summer collection but add these words to the pile - polished, structure and tailoring - and that just about sums it up. A piece from the house of Konstantina is not for the faint-hearted; cuts are straight out of a sci-fi film costume department, dress lengths are ultra mini and fabrics are as shiny as shipping beacons.
2. The cardinal point of
Therese Rawsthorne‘s S/S ‘08 collections is simply to have a done-up un-done look, and from where I was sitting on Saturday night, that's exactly what she achieved. Cotton is pretty much the only fabric used throughout the entire range, imbuing her edgy designs with a hint of subtle casualness. And when she didn’t stick to black, white or pink, Rawsthorne applied a floral print to skirts, jackets and dresses, which rounded up what I think is a blooming marvelous collection.
3.
Romance Was Born's divergent range was as creative and thrilling as ever. By the looks of things, the designers, Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett were inspired by African tribes, hippy communes, rainbows and Chinese philosophy. The proof was in the dresses, with a yin and yang print, techni-coloured ethnic style and black raffia number streaming down the catwalk.
