Taking their turn to walk the runways in recent weeks were the men. So good! Even better given they were wearing spring/summer 2010, so there was a barrage of bare chests - burnished and buff - on display. Face paints and pencil moustaches, among other things, were also on show, which begs the question, is the season ahead geared towards sexy, or so NOT!?
Here’s a taste of what was on offer.
In Paris over the weekend - in a swimming pool gutted for the occasion - John Galliano, inspired by Napoleon and his army, paraded wigged men painted in gold, bronze, burgundy and black, paving the way for chiseled jaws, sunken eyes, prominent noses and heavy brows gleaming with highlights. Angel-haired boys dusted with white powder where there too, tramping down the lanes with dull faces and flaxen locks.
At Dolce and Gabbana in Milan dashing men in charcoal and black sported just-out-of-the-shower slicked hair and clean faces. Some were shaven, still smelling of lotion and a sharp blade, while others wore sexy, feature-defining stubble.
Lanvin on the other hand called for scribbly moustaches and roughed-up hair – a little poet meets "man about town". While at Prada hair was plastered down with wet-look gel - more drowned rat than “you dirty rat”. Louis Vuitton opted for wha’-do-I-care hair, that be tousled to sexy-perfection. Oooh ahhh!
On a finally note, at Vivienne Westwood, boys with pasty faces, dark eyes and jackal smiles walked a red carpeted runway. Their lips were scrawled with red and white, their hair sprayed with yellow and green, and their eyes; well their eyes were covered in Zorro and executioner-style masks, pirate patches and inky black eyeliner. Indeed, they were.
