Winter. So good for so many things. Fires are nicer in winter. The snow is much better too. And too so are hot puddings.
However, winter gives your skin a battering. Heaters inside dry your skin out, the cold wind outside does the flipping same. At least the
UV index is pretty low. That's one benefit.
It's not too difficult to keep your skin happy through the cooler months. You might just need to adjust your cleanse, tone (if you like), moisuturse and maintain regime.
Use a gentle cleanser, I find Dermalogica are excellent and have something for every skin type. We have tried the
Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution RPP$50 on drier skin and the
Dermalogica Anti-Bac RRP$50 on skin prone to breakouts. Both were great.
Use a nourishing day moisturiser that's not too oily and use a slightly heavier one at night. Right now we like the
Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum RRP$62.50 topped up with a couple of drops of the
Aesop Fabulous Face Oil RRP$54.50 for extra moisture.
Keep your skin clear with a mud mask and ideally use a moisture mask to keep it, well, moist. We tried the
Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque RRP$44.50 and the
Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque RRP$57.50.
Used one after the other, the combo left our skin feeling soft, clean and smooth.
You'll notice dry lips more than ever at this time of year, so we can recommend one the best lip balms ever, those from Kiehls RRP $10. The plain no colour one has an oily consistency that soaks into your lips. It's amazing. Good old
Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment RRP $5.50 is also amazing and soaks straight in.
You're probably not flashing acres of skin at the moment, but keep a bottle of
Palmer's Cocoa Butter RRP $6.95 in the cupboard for the times that you, or someone else, actually notices your legs and such. It will happen at some point. You should ideally exfoliate with some of those buffer gloves before you moisturise. That ain't hard.
And finally, I know it's not hot, but don't forget to keep drinking water to keep your skin hydrated. That, for the forseeable future, is as free as the wintery wind up your skirt.
