Sometimes we just have to go there. Most times we don’t want to have to, but when you delve deep into the culture of hip hop, the majority of women portrayed are dime pieces, big-tittied boomin’-booty biatches and eyecandy for filler pages (not that I’m complaining).
But in order to spread history on one of the most powerful facets of ‘rap’ culture, globe trottin’
Jeanette Petri aka Jee-Nice took it upon herself to create a publication dedicated to the ladies of Hip Hop, in the form of her superbly crafted magazine
Anattitude.
Created in 2005 and steering well clear of the cliché ‘butter ball’ mags that take up space in your local Borders store, Anattitude encompasses a hip hop lifestyle seen through the eyes of an international power pack of women, holding it down in every aspect of the genre.
As Petri explains “Anattitude gives our readers information about females in Hip Hop culture, which you can’t find anywhere else, combined with a dope graphic design and photography. Lack of information was the reason to build up this big magazine project. Anattitude appears once a year with a special theme like “Paris Hip Hop” or “Old School Hip Hop and features international contributors from Britain to Bulgaria”.
With the next issue dropping any minute now – featuring a certain panda party DJ, I thought I’d get you up to scratch with downloadable versions of the first three issues. This is DIY at its best!
