This year marks 100 years in the beauty business for L'Oreal. The company, which began as a single hair dye formulated by French chemist Eugene Schueller and named l'Aureale, after a popular hairstyle at the time, is renowned for their long-standing policy to invest in research and development.

Noted for being a world leader on all levels, including advertising, their campaigns have long featured celebrities, as well as models, reciting the slogan “Because you’re worth it!”, in effect promoting self-esteem as being paramount. It’s fair to say that at one time or another we’ve all used a L’Oreal or L’Oreal-owned product - their vast stable includes Lancôme, Ralph Lauren, YSL Beaute, Biotherm, Kiehl’s, The Body Shop and Maybelline NY, among others - and that combining innovative concepts, formulas and a desirable image is undoubtedly the reason behind the company’s lasting prosperity.
