I’ve never been one to rock a bracelet, floss a necklace, pull off an anklet or adorn my fingers in rings. But ever since I was 15, there has been only one piece of accessory that I can’t live without, and that’s my G-Shock.

I vividly remember that day at 15 years of age walking past the Casio concession at Myer in downtown Radelaide, when outta nowhere, this bug-eyed chunky canary yellow ball-buster watch smashed me in the eyes. I’d never seen a piece like it before – and at the height of the ‘90s where the brand had released over 220 models, we were lucky to get a handful of the selection down under.

I saved up enough scrilla from my part time job at Granny Mays to cop this piece of ballistic plastic fantastic, and so begun an obsession. Throughout my teen years into adulthood, I’ve had over 30 different styles of G-Shock wrap my wrist from rawkus reds, to snow blown white, fluoro pink to aqua amazement. It’s the one and only brand that has been consistent in my wardrobe for over 20 years.

And what a difference those 20 years have made. Having started off in 1983, G-Shock is celebrating perhaps its biggest year on the market with their G-Shock The World Tour. Rocking the spot from New York to London, Paris to Japan, it’s now Sydney’s turn to celebrate the hottest timepiece in town. And why am I blowing smoke up the G-Shock booty? Because I’ve not only been asked to DJ at the event, I have been given the chance to join a select number of artists, musicians, clothing brands and sports identities to create my own limited edition G-Shock. You can imagine the fits of fury I chucked when I found out I was going to join the ranks of A Bathing Ape, In4mation, Mister Cartoon, Redman, LRG, Futura, X-Girl, X-Large, Stussy, Union, KiksTYO, Spike Lee, The Hundreds and beyond! I’m yet to see the final product, but lets just say it’s bright, bold, chunky and in yo face – oh so apt!

The G-Shock The World party goes down November 19th at Sydney’s Carriageworks, and hitting the decks alongside myself will be the ridonkulously talented DJ Dexter and the hotness that is my sisters in crime, Hoops DJs.
