Venice film festival is in full flight and the stars were out in their summery finest to celebrate Valentino: The Last Emperor. Billed as a glimpse into a bygone era of glamour, the film follows one of fashion's most tanned designers through two years of his life, giving an insight into his life, work and love.
From June 2005 to July 2007 the film crew shot hundreds of hours of footage of Valentino Garavani and his entourage. You've seen the gowns, now see the six pug dogs which follow him everywhere and have their teeth brushed.
The film also delves into the 50-year relationship Valentino has with Giancarlo Giammetti. The designer and Giammetti met in the 1960s and became life and business partners who built up a billion dollar fashion business.
Valentino was made a chevalier of the legion of honour in 2006 and announced his retirement in 2007. He appointed Alessandra Facchinetti as his successor, and though we may never see a film of her and her six dogs of choice, she continues to live up to the high expectations of Valentino's haute couture customers.
