Melbourne race goers love their hats, and last night a few hundred of them gathered at Flemington racecourse to see an hour-long parade by the Millinery Association of Australia.
President
Richard Nylon and hall of fame member Peter Jago held sway, as more than 35 mad hatters showed off their creations for the racing season.
There was a distinct absence of feathery, tuley fascinators and a return to strong, solid gravity-defying hats.
The lovely thing about spring racing fashion is that it’s as much about mutual admiration as showing off. There were distinct oohs and sighs. As a sky-scraping white peacock hat came out, and plenty of laughter, giggles and nattering throughout the event.
Without a hat at the races you’re practically nude, so it’s a goog thing there was a design to suit every size, shape and taste.
