Titling her previously feathered headband to the unconventional, old lady style of glasses wearing icon Iris Apfel, Sara Phillips’ latest collection Iris gives us hope to wearing more than just black in winter.
While only a relatively young label, Sara is quickly refining her fresh style into one that embraces colour and boldly experiments with print, texture and proportion. Her collections consistently provide a mix of items that include classic pieces (the grey singlets from the Ultra Sound collection) and show stopping numbers (remember that hot pink velvet from last winter?) proving an attractive option to a range of style hunting consumers.
For next winter, Iris is a light, almost trans-seasonal vision that is made for a country that rarely experiences the full fledging chill of the season. Cotton candy pink, blush, nude, and ivory dominate the collection, while Sara Phillips’ fearless experimentation with prints and draping gives the Iris range an exciting point of difference.
Ethereal sheer fabrics and delicate knits are mixed with men’s style tailoring while midriff and maxi style proportions are cleverly worked into the mix. Overall the focus is on both wear-ability and the playful nature of fashion. I can’t wait to play dress-ups in this collection.
Iris will be available in stores in March. Bring on the cold.
