Sure he's not the newest kid on the block (he launched his first range
in 2005), but cobbler Nicholas Kirkwood is still worth touting. Dubbed
the new Louboutin, his winter 08 collection is almost so hot you need
fireproof gloves to handle them. Burn, baby burn.
With ranges for both Belstaff and Rodarte under his belt Kirkwood has well and truly cemented his place in the Shoe Designer hall of fame (a fictional place, but imagine the footwear in a place like that!). His designs are powerful, almost to the point of overwhelming (read: keep the outfit simple, let the Kirkwoods do the talking), and made for "women with presence and intellect" he tells
Oyster Magazine in a recent interview.
"Decorating for the sake of decorating is a really old-fashioned notion, I'm more about form and function. Some of my heels look quite aggressive, but they are always feminine – not girly, you won't find any bows or diamonds."
Amen.
