Diane Pernet, iconic gothish fashion blogger from
A Shaded View On Fashion is curating
Not Just A Label's online store for July and has chosen Melbourne label
MATERIALBYPRODUCT to be part of the exclusive stock list.
Susie Dimasi, one half of
MATERIALBYPRODUCT, said she was thrilled to be noticed by Pernet and
NJAL. "It's very significant for us to be selected by an internationally recognised fashion icon like Diane Pernet and NJAL's agenda of presenting special creations online perfectly matches with MATERIALBYPRODUCT's vision."
Not Just a Label is an online community for fashion designers and fashion students, which gives emerging designers the exposure they need in the early days of their career. Founder Stefan Siegel says "Young aspiring fashion designers face enormous hurdles at the beginning of their career; we wanted to provide a stage where designers could showcase their collections at no costs. The goal was to formulate and implement a vision; linking designers with the fashion industry."
Launched in June,
The Shop features a carefully curated collection of unique pieces from around the globe. Each month there is a new curator and a new selection of pieces. The first curator to host the shop this June, was Robin Schulié, head-buyer of the iconic Maria Luisa store in Paris and Unit F, the Austrian Association for Contemporary Fashion.
NJAL success stories include Mary Katrantzou, a recent Central Saint Martins graduate is now an on-schedule headliner at London Fashion Week while Damir Doma the Antwerp based Menswear designer of the year with on-schedule shows in Paris.
Siegel hopes NJAL will spread the notion of "the new luxury", that is, rare artisanal products made with skill and care - the exact opposite of big labels producing "it" items en masse.
Siegel also sees the focus on well-made products as directly contributing to sustainability. "The appetite and demand for alternative and sustainable production is predominant across sectors such as food, hospitality, lifestyle and fashion. Young designers recognise the responsibility in creating sustainable fashion."
You have until July 31 to enjoy Diane Pernet’s selection. Look out for another exciting curator for August.
