Maison Martin Margiela summer 2009

Does Martin Margiela hate women and wish they would just shut up? The masked, faceless, tightly bound models he sent down the runway for Paris pret-a-porter week would suggest he does.

This is pret week, so we're meant to be able to buy these designs and wear them now now now. Well, next summer anyway. Perhaps you would buy these if you kind wished you didn't talk so much. Maybe you have a painful case of constant foot in mouth? Or you may just be hideously ugly. In which case, buy away.

I generally like Maison Martin Margiela. After this agro experimental lot though, I think he should go hug his mum.

katgeorge ON 02 Oct 2008 05:21:58AM Maybe it's about female identity in the spotlight/media/fashion and how it's suffocated by a mandatory set of rules dictated by a patriarchal society. Or maybe the label is just intensley mysogonistic and the lips suggest something to the effect that all women do is gossip and nag :)

MattHorsey ON 19 Nov 2008 09:54:16AM As all the models have had their faces "erased" I think it's more about breaking down the celebrity model factor. There's so much hype about models and at the end of the day, fashion is about clothes, not models. The fact that all that's left is the hair, skin and clothes shows that he's trying to take it back to the basics. personally I love it - the jackets made of wigs are brilliant!
