After the recent announcement that Tyra Banks’ talkshow ‘The Tyra Banks Show’ will be filming it’s very last season, we can all breathe a sigh of relief that America’s Next Top Model, along with Tyra, show’s no sign of slowing. They can continue to keep us thinking that it’s all about discovering the latest ‘super model,’ but heading into it’s 14th season, I think we all know the jig is up.

It’s all about bitch fights, girl’s reluctantly cutting their hair, learning to smile with your eyes and Tyra screaming/crying, and we wouldn’t change a thing. The formula is predictable, but a winner in the hearts of fashion-loving viewers, and there are plenty more shows that have jumped on the fashion as entertainment train.

(Insert country here)’s Next Top Model

Alice Beurdeu did well and walked her fair share of international catwalks, but Australian winners previous, and since, are yet to make independent names for themselves (come on Tahnee, we’re all routing for you.) While the Aussie version has its fair share of entertainment, the sweetness of new host Sara Murdoch can not compare to the insanity of Tyra Banks. Moreover Alex Perry and Charlotte Dawson’s snide remarks can not match up to the hilarious Miss Jay. And if rumors are to be believed, Andre Leon Tally is set to appear in the next season, America’s Next Top Model is still the original and the best.

Project Runway

Unlike ANTP, I have to side with our Aussie version of the American fashion show, Project Runway. Kirstie Hinze’s voice is no where near as annoying as Hedi Klum, Henry Roth is a suitable substitute for Tim Gunn, but more than anything the contestants are incredibly talented and entertaining. I’m only hoping that next season there will be a new Mark Antonio, this time with a lamp or something equally as obscure on his head. Perhaps Mugatu should apply.

The Rachel Zoe Project

Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe drinks coffee, stresses and says stuff like ‘out of control!’ ‘I die’ and ‘shut it down,’ a lot. While Rachel is hardly a likeable character and her negative-nelly assistant Taylor is equally as frustrating, her bow tie wearing right hand man Brad adds a sense of humor and happiness that is a joy to watch. Plus you get to see a lot of pretty clothes and celebrities.

The Fashion Show

As if the choice for former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, wasn’t weird enough, the choice of extraverted and bizarre contestants (Merlin anyone?) ensured the first season of the show was a full on fashion circus. The Bravo TV show enabled American viewers to purchase the winning designs from each week’s challenges online. But it wasn’t the predictable challenges or catty confrontations that made for viewing pleasure, but the show’s beckon of light was Issac Miarahi and his signature line ‘I’m sorry darling, but I’m just not buying it.’
