Bored of lunchtime swims? Bored of summer? Bored of half-working / not working / at least pretending you're still on holidays? Hardly.

Right now, our favourite thing at TheVine is jumping in the car at lunch, hammering to the beach (6 minutes away) diving in for twenty minutes and being back within the regulation 1 hour. Yes, we also squeeze in a roast chicken roll and icecream from the kiosk. Too good.

We're also fussy about our boardies. The boys are keen on shorts that won't fall apart, have a scalloped edge at the hem, sit above the knee and are nice and secure for all the frisbee diving, shark punching and other awesome beach sports activities we get into. The girls just like to see a nice bit of design.

We rate Insight and Rhythm for style, substance and durability. They're both worth the dollars, around $70. Rip Curl, of course, are the old masters, as are Billabong. The latter do Metallica shorts. Ha! You can wear them with earnestness and tough stickers or a sun-proof rashy, a massive hat and zinc on your nose to re-live your hardly misspent youth. Emo bands don't do boardshorts because going to the beach makes you happy.
