Bernhard Willhelm is the kind of designer that makes Sacha Baron Cohen storm runways. His designs are more mental than mental, more bunto than bunto, more ... you get the drfit. He’s a boundary pusher, a revolutionary of the thread, a renegade with a sewing machine. He makes clothes that prove creativity is alive. He also makes some very sensible leggings with a nice pattern.
Every runway show that Willhelm manages to turn out is so highly anticipated there’s kids from Berlin to Sydney scratching their arms and making strange mutterings. They’ll probably never afford his wares, but it’s such a visual feast.
I guess Romance Was Born is the closest label we have locally, for their incredible showmanship let alone anything else.
Personally, he has a very basic approach to fashion. In a great interview in
Hintmag, he said “I like five basic things. I really like sweat materials. I like things that have been washed. Good underwear is essential. I like boots. And I like anything overly masculine. It's a privilege to be a man. Today I'm also feeling we should wear skirts again.”
This show featured plastic sausage necklaces, bear/food masks and it doesn't get any more BW than this.
