A wunderkammer was, in Renaissance Europe, a ‘cabinet of wonder’ or ‘cabinet of curiosities’. It’s this eclectic jumble and carefully selected aesthetic that new Darlinghurst store is reminiscent of.

The Artisan Guild & Curiosity Shop opened on Thursday night at 262 Oxford Street. It’s not there forever; rather, it’s a pop up store that will close its doors in two months.

Marsu Homme is the backbone of the store – their boots and brogues for men are the majority of stock, and miraculously, there are two for one specials on various styles.

Marsu Homme is the brainchild of designer Christina Hammond, and with shoe forms that are hand shaped and sculpted, beautiful leathers and unusual shades, the label fills a definite dearth in the market – hence gracing the catwalk for labels such as Friedrich Gray and Beat Poet during fashion week earlier this year.

Then, there are all sorts of delights from all sorts of labels. Threads from Beat Poet and St Augustine Academy, jewellery from Matt Weston and Elke Kramer, eyewear from Isson and Fiction. There’s plenty more too - Ginny and Jude, Toby Jones, Mine, Luke Storrier, Phil Young, All of Our Lives and William Llewellyn Griffiths to name just a few, along with carefully selected vintage.

Highlights, of course, are Phil Young’s ‘curious clocks that go backwards’, and the range of limited edition, customised glasses from Isson and Fiction.

It’s all housed in a beautifully merchandised store, surrounded with ‘curiosities’ – deer mounted on the wall, vintage prints and rustic tables, antique mannequins and more.

Artisan Guild and Curiosity Shop is open until July 31, open seven days from 10am - 6pm and 8pm on Thursday.
