Brace yourselves: it’s the Fashion on Film 5 WHITNEY HOUSTON YOUTUBE TRIBUTE EDITION.
As
The Chaser’s Andrew Hansen sang in his infamous Eulogy Song: “Everyone’s a top bloke after death”. And in the case of celebrity women, everyone’s a “fashion icon”.
The recently departed Whitney Houston has been a hot mess, stylistically speaking, for years and was recently snapped falling out of nightclub doors with
matted hair and blood on her legs, but that didn’t stop all the breathless reports of her being a “fashion icon”.
Really? When? Can you name an iconic outfit Whitney Houston ever wore?
Of course, this is why it’s been hard for the YouTuberazzi to come up with a Whitney video tribute likely to go viral and make them hundreds of cents in advertising money. There’s no meat dress to copy, no Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra to emulate, no gold hot pant equivalent.
But oh, they’ve been trying.
So today I bring you a special Fashion on Film 5: The top 5 worst Whitney Houston YouTube tribute videos, featuring the worst Whitney Houston costumes of all time.
NUMBER 5:
Well done to “labelfashionaddict”, who ironically shows no evidence of having anything to do with fashion whatsoever, for his charming tribute, “RIP Whitney”. Ten points if you guessed before you clicked it that he’d be singing “I Will Always Love You”.
Fashion-wise, I’m not sure I remember Whitney’s servo sunnies and parachute silk hoodie look. Nor do I recall her ever wearing a Don Johnson wig. But I have to give this guy props for his sincerity, and also for the dirty socks hanging over the door in the background. Touching.
NUMBER 4:
>
You know how you always look way cuter in photos after you’ve applied those retro Instagram filters? That’s what “MaleCheer4Realz” was counting on in this video. Pity he still looks like a fat bloke in drag.
Still, good on him for thinking that a sequinned jacket and an afro wig would be enough to convey “Whitney Houston” to the world. I think you’ll agree the resemblance is uncanny.
NUMBER 3:
OK so... this one’s actually kind of good. This girl does look rather like Whitney Houston, from the (iconic) hair to the (iconic) big sunglasses and the (iconic) little black dress. Although I have to say I’m more impressed by the guy playing 50 Cent – that shit is bang on.
NUMBER 2:
Aviator sunglasses – check. Clip on earrings – check. Scarf wrapped around head in a way Whitney Houston never actually did – check. Whitney transformation complete.
(Do you think they realise mum crept in to the background half way through?)
NUMBER 1:
Did I say the “worst” Whitney Houston tributes? I meant the best. Because this effort by “HeadphonesOnly” is obviously the best thing on the internet right now. Oh wait, it’s just been surpassed by a video of a kitten sneezing.
Never mind, this guy has pretty much nailed every Whitney Houston look anyone can remember, from that black jacket in The Bodyguard (iconic) to the headband from the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” video (also iconic).
I also appluad his fashion versatility – Whitney wore a beaded headdress in the “I Have Nothing” video, which this guy has magically transformed into a sequinned jacket. Not to mention that he clearly sounds EXACTLY like her.
EVERYONE, STOP CRYING ABOUT WHITNEY HOUSTON. WE HAVE A REPLACEMENT.
