For a long time, I've been preaching to the masses about giving your shoes more attention. And FINALLY! Vogue Australia’s editor, Kirstie Clements, dedicated the editor's letter for March to shoes. Shoes glorious shoes.
Certainly Vogue is known around the world as the bible of fashion, and when Kirstie Clements says shoes and accessories are it, then we must believe it.
I’ve long placed importance on shoes and accessories, taking the attention away from clothes; those that we adorn our legs and backs with.
The theme of this month’s Vogue is this idea; that accessories and particularly shoes should be the centre of our outfits.
The issue focuses on the new accessories for Spring/Summer ’09 in Emma Wyeth’s report. There is nothing simple about accessories this season; standing out is key.
Tom Binns, amazing jeweller, further supports the idea that “clothes have become accessories.” He is also happy the day has finally arrived.
Furthermore, Peter Harris, president of the lust-worthy Hong Kong retail group,
On Pedder, says “accessories designers are the new fashion celebrities... there is a sameness about the way people dress... a pair of shoes completely changes the way a woman carries herself... accessories are democratic in their reach.”
Perhaps some shoppers find shoe shopping more difficult than clothes, and it is likely the art of buying something ‘different’ to help their outfit have the ‘pow’ factor, is the most difficult task of all. Surely with jewellery, many of us wear the same pieces everyday, creating a signature look that we deem matches all our outfits. Accessories designers
will us to pay more attention to these parts of our outfits.
So with these new developments, and mainstream media's attention to the subject, what will the new season bring? In terms of the Spring/Summer ’09 trend forecast, boy am I happy that finally those ‘extreme shoe moments’ will finally be appreciated.

I'm naming Viktor & Rolf the 'KINGS' of heels this season.

So fashion is changing and moving forwards, embracing the recession depression and proving that all designers are optimistic. I'm optimistic that all my readers will adopt the same philosophy.
