The top ten naked, pregnant celebrities
In 1991 Annie Leibovitz shot a naked and pregnant Demi Moore for Vanity Fair. Although controversial at the time, it’s now one of the most iconic covers in magazine history. Since then, expectant stars have no qualms about stripping down to their birthday suit for the camera. In fact, the practice is so widespread that if you don’t get totally nekkid, and your baby bump isn’t plastered across newsstands, you’re practically a nobody. In tinsel town, taking your clothes off is as much a part of the pregnancy process as craving ketchup and cantaloupe and naming the thing that pops out something ridiculous.
The latest A-lister to bare all is Jessica Simpson, whose beach ball belly graces the cover of this month’s Elle magazine. The spread was shot by Carter Smith and styled by Joe Zee, and in it, Simpson wears nothing but Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.
In April last year Mariah Carey appeared naked and pregnant on the cover of Life & Style magazine. "I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience," the pop diva said of the experience. Britain's OK! magazine also ran a naked shot of a Mariah alongside her husband, Nick Cannon, who doubles as a hand-bra.
In 1996, while pregnant with her second child by Kevin Federline, Jayden James, Britney Spears stripped down for Harper's Bazaar. In 2006, she did it again. Spears’ swollen stomach was seen on the cover of Q, but her Lolita-esque pose was a lot more suggestive than it was for the Harper's shoot. Provocatively sucking a lollypop, Spears brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “yummy mummy”.
A heavily pregnant Christina Aguilera posed (almost) nude in the January 2008 edition of Marie Claire. She accessorised with hoop earrings, a cropped leather jacket and way too much fake tan.
For the December 2010 “family” themed issue of W, photographer Patrick Demarchelier shot Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr. She was six and a half months pregnant.
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for the 2010 June issue of German Vogue. Schiffer explained that she wanted to do the nude shoot because, "It was important to us to show how beautiful it is to be a woman and that you can have a positive attitude towards your body, including when you're expecting."
Eight years after Demi Moore did it, Cindy Crawford became the new naked pregnant lady on the newsstand. In 1999, while pregnant with daughter Presley Walker, she posed for W. The headline read, “Move over, Demi”.
In 2004, Italian sex symbol/actress Monica Bellucci posed naked and pregnant for Italian Vanity Fair in protest against laws that prevented the use of donor sperm. She bared her bump for Vanity Fair again in 2010, but added a silk robe and underwear to mix.
In 2003, Brooke Shields posed for US Vogue in a wet, see-through dress. The image, shot by Annie Liebowitz, is one of the more modest takes on the naked and pregnant trend.
Actor Patrick Dempsey posed with his wife Jillian's pregnant belly on the cover of Life magazine in 2007. He won the title "Sexiest Dad Alive" as a result.
