The Splendour in the Grass count down is on and festival goers are gearing up (literally, tents and all) for a 3 day party at the new location of Woodfordia.
Now before I progress can I ask what do you know about Woodfordia? Nothing? Apart from it sounding like a place where Hobits might live, I don't know much either, but I dare say it will be pretty darn cold there at this time of year so my first tip is to dress accordingly. While Florence and the Machine, Goldfrapp and Scissor Sisters impress you with some visual and audible delights, unlike them it’s probably a good idea to wear a bit more than just a glorious sequined cape or crotchless jumpsuit. Just a suggestion. If you do end up wearing something to that epic effect though, I promise to give you an equally epic high five.
To save you some time and energy I’ve managed to find a few things online that might be of help. Most of them are on sale too. That’s ok, you’re welcome. Just looking out for your financial future is all.
To start out with the basic necessities, you’re definitely going to need something to keep you warm. A long sleeved dress with a blazer is an idea - team this Top Shop black sixties mini dress with the below Mustard vintage blazer from Claire Inc.
This black lace Joveeba number would look lovely under this Evil Twin parker coat. Or if you fancy this Push Button Oversized nylon Parker, I’d team it with this white Lonely Hearts dress. Well now don’t you look like a cutie?!
For those of you out there that are keen to let your inner hippie child loose and embrace a bit of colour, then this Horace multi coloured oversized knitted jumper could do the trick. It also comes in more muted tones or there is a similar relaxed style available in slate grey if you’re so inclined. When it gets too hot, tie it round your waist, stomp around with bad posture and call it your ‘return to grunge’ phase.
Animal print is always a festival favourite and lucky for you I found some rather attractive Evil Twin jeans for only $89.95. Spruce them up while attempting to do your best Abbey Lee ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ impression with these Spirit Hoods from Desordre.
They’re like a plush toy for your head. Genius!
Leather is yet another festival favourite, and with The Strokes headlining you can bet your bottom dollar all the Julian Casablancas wannabes will be waltzing around in their trusty leather jackets. But we all know you can do better than that. How about a pair of leather shorts instead? These Strummer shorts have a flattering cut, or if you want to show a bit more leg these studded Ellery ones are suitable. Both on sale too! Wear them with a long sleave button up men’s shirt for extra rock n roll appeal.
This skull print Wheels & Doll baby one is rather dashing.
Another vital thing to consider is footwear. Byron usually ended up being a dangerous mud pit by day two. Woodford may be different but I wouldn’t risk it. Wellies in either classic black or a bright colour are a good idea. Or even a trusty pair of biker boots could get you through the days.
And last but not least, there’s going to be no time to do a wash here, so don’t forget to pack clean underwear! Aussie label Thousand Dancers has really cute and colourful styles to choose from. The label is inspired by Pattie Smith and the independent spirit of the seventies, so you’ll be practically reliving Woodstock in these bohemian knickers.
