Maggie Gyllenhaal's fashion meltdown

Maggie Gyllenhaal's fashion meltdown

Who's saying what

Glacia is a fantastic woman thank you Lauren for the publicity she and her friends thought this article was hilarious! I wonder if Maggie will get to see it?

BoundtoRestyle

Celebrity meltdowns are an alarmingly current occurrence of late. A form of cringe-worthy entertainment that we can't help but watch with horror and a nervous laugh. Besides getting caught with prostitutes or being arrested for drug possession, clothing choices can also be a good indicator of a rocky, car-crash-encouraging road that may lie ahead. Looking back, Britney's lack of underwear was a warning sign, Lindsay Lohan's impression of Donnatella Versace's style set alarm bells off and then of course there was always something a little too kooky about John Galliano.....too soon?

It is now being reported that Maggie Gyllenhaal is the latest star to be struggling with her wardrobe and life choices. Hipster Runoff has claimed that the 'failed indie actress' has turned to selling weird hippie clothes on Etsy under the name Intergalactic Apparel. Sound a little far fetched? Take a look at the site's images which are modelled by Maggie or at the very least an amazing Maggie-look-a-like.

Meltdown or not, Maggie's apparent Etsy store is one part funny and a whole lot a creepy. Listed under the names 'Kaiya & Glacia Rose' the two Regretsy store owners create 'wearable art' from felt strips, resulting in items that can loosely be described as sarong skirts, head wraps and 'fanny packs.' Though their hearts may be in the right place, aiming to preserve the planet 'one stitch at a time,' the "wearable art" on offer is indeed as fugly as it sounds and I dare say would being doing the world more harm than good.

There's no denying the Etsy store is full of super disturbing images and head hurting grammar (VioLeT FlaME InTerSteLLaR ScoOdiE) but is Maggie Gyllenhaal really the one behind it all?

Considering Intergalactic Apparel is listed to have joined Etsy in 2008, a year in which Maggie stared in blockbuster The Dark Knight and was walking the red carpet in designer gowns, it's probably unlikely. But hey let's not totally rule it out just yet.

Hipster Runoff is right in pointing out that things have been rather quiet for Maggie. The last movie she did was both a kid's movie and a sequel; Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. Seems like a strange choice considering her movie resume includes Mona Lisa Smiles, Secretary, Adaptation, Donnie Darko and Crazy Heart, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

On the fashion front however, Maggie has never been one to show signs of a fashion-failing. Or has she? At second inspection even some of the designer gowns she has worn edge on the side of Regretsy. A silver fringed chocker worn with a silver silk cocktail dress looks a little suspicious at on closer contemplation. Even the Louis Vuitton dress she wore to the Met Gala last year looks like something Intergalactic Apparel would try and replicate. Though after shining a wary light on her previous red carpet outings, Maggie's outfit choices, including Lanvin, Dries Van Noten and Proenza Schouler are pretty flawless.

But this doesn't solve the question as to how Maggie came to be in Intergalatic Apparel's Etsy photos. Perhaps its not her at all? Likely. Or perhaps she's pulling a fashion version of Joaquin Phoenix's faux meltdown?! I'm predicting the former, but hoping for the latter.

Maggie Gyllenhaal's last role got her an Oscar nomination last year and her next film is coming out this year (never mind the fact that she's always been vocal about not working as much because she's got a kid), so I think the term "failed indie actress" is a bit of a stretch. Plus, the person in these pictures is obvz not her. Congrats to Hipster Runoff for making "news" out of nothing but some hippy who kind of looks like a famous person from certain angles.

I think it is someone who looks alarmingly like her, or it's a massive pisstake or an attempt to go straight to Regretsy (it's a thing don't-you-know) by her or someone who looks like her. Kaiya Waler Glacia Rain? Please. Also withloveand$wallow has a point. She's hardly a failed indie actress.

The woman has creative style and imagination and it's very sad that some people are so narrow minded that they believe it's 'weird' to be different and individual...it's a breath of fresh air to see people who are not sheep, who follow fashion just to 'fit in' or don't have enough imagination or confidence in themselves to express their own style. Imagine if Piccasso copied Constable, or if the Beatles copied Roy Orbison...we would live in a very boring world now wouldn't we? Like little obedient clones of each other!
